Ok, in truth I haven't seen "King Kong" yet. There is a rumor that it could burst out as both best picture and give Peter Jackson (recently slimmer and trimmer!) another gold statue. We'll see.

I give Reese Witherspoon a lock. The rest nobody knows.

Well, except PricewaterhouseCoopers..

Didn't see most of these movies, but did see King Kong. It was a visual all-you-can-eat buffet and the effects made Jurassic Park look like Gumby. But I don't think it'll get best picture for 2 reasons: 1) Jack Black was awful, ridiculous and less believable than Kong; and 2) The Academy isn't ready for everyone to assume that every Peter Jackson epic will get best picture. Hopefully it'll win lots of misc categories, though, because it's deserving.

Well, there's really two lists--who will get it and who should get it.

Picture:
Will: Brokeback Mountain. Beautiful, groundbreaking, but a little slow for me.
Should: Good Night and Good Luck. Tight, crisp, beautifully acted, beautifully shot.

Actor:
Will: Philip Seymour Hoffman
Should: Philip Seymour Hoffman.
Hoffman is a force of nature, but I am secretly hoping for Strathairn upset. I love him and he's due.

Actress:
Will: Reese Witherspoon
Should: I'd prefer to see Felicity Huffman get it, as it pains me to see Legally Blonde get an Oscar.

Supporting Actor:
Will: Paul Giamatti
Should: Paul Giamatti. The academy will want to make up for stiffing him on Sideways. But Matt Dillon was great, so it may be closer than I think.

Supporting Actress:
Will: Rachel Weisz
Should: Laura Linney. Such a funny and controlled performance.

Director:
Will: Ang Lee
Should: George Clooney or Paul Haggis. Both Good Night and Crash were expertly crafted and held my attention every second.

Of course, I may change my mind completely by March....

Nice job on the predictions, especially Reese being a "lock"!
